Collaborate 2010!

Hello Everyone!!

Hope everyone's having a great new year. For those who are not aware, 2 of our zanies are now daddies!! So, a big round of congratulations to both naagpal and shreel!! In the meanwhile, some our followers have tied the knots - so best wishes to them as well!!

I truly regret not contributing here since beginning - which essentially was a result of great deal of direction-lessness within! I still remember the discussion at QBA with Mayank, Shreel, Abhimanyu, Varun and Rohit to kickstart this and yet I had no direction within me - of what/how I would contribute here, what/how I would seek for contribution here? We tried making an outstation trip, a visit to an NGO, 4 weeks of get togethers, a photography session! All with some success.
But, did we get constrained by the element of space & time? Or did we get constrained because by not articulating clearly reasons for being part of this network? This dilemma and the ensuing lack of commitment prevented me blogging here!!

But here's sharing with you some of the thoughts that have been in my mind since past 4 weeks. Give this a read: http://virtualsafari.blogspot.com/2010/01/collaborate-2010.html

To set up the above thoughts into action, How about an idea to collaborate to create a audio-visual on school – a scripted medley of photographs, comments on them, podcasts, along with voiceovers, music. Let’s rope in alumni from any part of the world, from various professions and batches to contribute, collaborate and put together the final piece. And yes, this needn’t be a single team exercise but could actually involve multiple teams putting together multiple AV on the school.

Some key expectations from this experiment.

1. The larger chunk of this should be carried out to online. Yes, this is a social experiment to test the possibilities.
2. We would surely need to use something like google wave to put this all together. Set up the timelines for ideation, brainstorming, moderating the content. Setting up the teams working on content – textual, visual, audio, script!

The AVs are to be prepared online and then could be beamed across to everyone on the network. In fact, Let’s take this to school this Annual day to set the them for next 5 years – Collaboration!!

Let’s get on and start the collaborative journey!! What say?

Save the Earth: 1Click-1Tree

Zaninites! How's it going? It's been a while and it'd be the understatement of 2009 to say that this group has been quieter than we hoped it would be. At the same time, it'd be a sham to say we're not the ones to blame for it! :P However, today is not the day to say all those things- It's the last day of 2009 baby! Now, I'm sure all of you have some awesome plans made and some huge fun is to be had later in the evening for every one. Therefore, I'd keep this short and before I wish every one a happy new year I'd like to introduce an interesting and worthwhile activity to all here-

This is in wake of the impending doomsday that theory makers would have you believe is coming fast and with Copenhagen being reduced to a big joke, I guess we all know that Earth is gonna melt down and dissolve in its own seas sooner or later (maybe not in our lifetimes, but would you like your children to die like that?)... Unless, we do something about it. And that's what this is: the 1Click-1Tree initiative started by 141 Sercon; an events and advertising company in New Delhi which plans to plant 5,000 saplings of different species of trees in the country in 2010 and they want the people of India to choose and own those trees. No money involved- all you gotta do is tell them which tree to plant and they'll do it for you. Heck, they'd even send you a picture and location of the sapling. What they want in return from you? Well, they'd like that once you know where the sap is, you check in on it once in a while and in general, do what to can to make sure that your sapling becomes a tree and the purpose of this initiative is met- That's all.

So, for now all we gotta do is go to the 1Click-1Tree website here and a) Choose what tree you want & b) Enter you name and e-mail id so they can send you pictures and location of it once they do it. I've already chosen my tree (a Neem tree) and have even blogged about this initiative on my personal blog in detail so those seeking more in depth look can check it here. Needless to say, I'd like you all to choose a tree and ask the 1Click-1Tree team to plant it for you.

That was that guys, just wanted a bunch of environmentally aware people to know that there are organizations doing their bit in saving our fast depelting planet and WE can make a difference by a click of the mouse.

You'd probably see me talking more about this and other similar environmental issues in times to come but for now, I'm outta here man! I've got some moves to bust and some joy to bring! Hope you do the same- have a great evening and a wonderful new year, my friends... And be safe! :)
